Top 10 Weird Clothes you never thought existed
Neha | Apr 2 2007

Clothes are one of the basic necessities. That’s certain or we would have been running around like Adam and Eve. But not any more now, they have a history to tell. First, for clothing, we had a simple reason. But now, objectives like fashion play a vital role. Now clothes have weirdest of objectives and desires to fulfill. That’s why jotting down ten weirdest apparel and apparel related stuff was an easy task. Wildest of imaginations have played an important role in creating such apparels. So, here goes the list:

10. Emotional clothes:

We named them, emotional clothes because they can read your emotions. Well, sort of. Developed by Philips Design, these garments through “emotional sensing,” can read and project wearers’ emotions. The creations are a part of the SKIN research project and this might give an idea how we will be communicating in future.

9. Clothing that kills bacteria -

This is one of the on going projects of the researchers at the Wilkes-Barre, Pa., school and its all about clothes that can sense infectious-diseases or presence of biological agents. Hmmm...I can sense something!

8. Hidden messages in clothing -

Why the French and Americans have a history of wars? Can you think of a reason? I can give you one. Because of the clothes that are sent over there. Don’t believe me...read over.

7. Errorwear Clothing -

These are normal shirts but the messages written on them are not. These shirts actually depict the various error messages that one may encounter while using the operating systems of Microsoft windows. And that’s basically the idea. Ummm...I think I should start learning computers.

6. Repellent clothes for insects -

Tired of trying out ways to keep you away from insects. Buzz Off brings you the solution. A Greensboro, N.C.-based apparel company has patented a way to merge repellent to clothing. The apparel is being treated with Permethrin and is to survive 25 washes. It has been approved by EPA. There range includes convertible pants, baseball caps, fishing shirts and even bandanas for dogs.

5. Edible Clothes

And now we are so crazy about our clothes that we can wear anything and I mean anything. For example, a Paris-based fashion designer created an entire collection of edible clothes made out of bread. Jean-Paul Gaultier made everything from haute couture shoes to bras. Isn’t that literally inviting someone to eat you up.

4. Lettuce Lingerie -

The clothes are getting shorter day by day. So, what could be the next trend? Something like Adam and Eve. Anyways, actually this is for a campaign, ‘Let vegetarianism grow on you’. Uh...I won’t ever like veggies growing on me like that.

3. Dissolvable clothing-

As the name suggest, these are certainly a creation of the geniuses. And the combo is of a fashion designer and a chemist. That may sound odd, but that’s true. The fabric is made from a clear polymer, polyvinyl alcohol. The dresses are based on the principle of self-destructible plastics. Hmmm....I will go for one only if it costs also dissolves like its shelf life.

2. Body-sensor clothing -

This was exhibited at FUSEDSPACE DATABASE EXHIBITION and I can’t single out a reason justifying its purpose. Its actually highly technical and combines fashion, analytical chemistry, nanotechnology, perfumery and architecture. You can imagine now, I guess. And the objective is plain and simple; to maintain emotional control, preserve a healthy frame of mind and wellness of the user. What happened to the ideas like jogging, walks, healthy food?

And the winner is

1. Clothes changing mood according to your mood-

Imagine the day when your clothes will change colors as your mood. Feels like you are in a fairy tale! The day is no far. Gregory Sotzing, a professor of polymer and organic chemistry at the University of Connecticut in Storrs are creating these magical threads from electro-chromic polymers that change color in response to an electric current.
