Animals have always inspired makers of art. The connection dates back to the prehistoric times when a creative Neanderthal would etch out animal figures on the walls of caves, shape animal skins to cover himself, make animal figures to entertain his offspring and wear animal parts as jewelry.
The modern day creators of fashion are no different. Time and again we get to see fashion accessories themed on animals – bags, clothing, jewelry etc. But rarely do we get to see an item that evidences the outstanding conceptualization powers of the designer. You can get a classic example of such an item in the Animalier Collection of jewelry, created for you, by none other than the very talented Italian jeweler Roberto Coin.
I like Roberto Coin’s distinctive style of symbolizing animals in his work. I find many of his contemporaries designing lifestyle products in animal forms. But the results are, most often, disastrous. I’ve never liked wearing fished-shaped earrings or turtle shaped-pendants. Inanimate objects designed like animals make me nauseous. But Coin’s creations are different. They don’t bear sickening resemblances to real animals. He has beautifully molded the skin-pattern rather than the form of animals into jewelry -that I would prefer to label as simply exquisite!
You can choose from the cobra, lizard, turtle and bald eagle versions that feature his signature single ruby. The very impressive cobra neckwear has diamond encrusted scales, in case you want to flaunt a nouveau riche appearance, the way most members of our gender do. Something else that I like about Roberto Coin’s collection is that they don’t appear in single pieces. They are always accompanied by matching accessories so that you are saved the trouble of hunting for matching pieces when you have very less time with you to look your best.
