Real Models for skimpy swimwear

The “real” models who defied Australian Fashion Week organisers to show off their curves in skimpy swimwear included a 30-year-old nurse and a size-12 university student.

Designers Leesa Fogarty and Hamish Stewart were praised for using everyday Australians in their swimwear parade.

Sydney based, Fogarty herself was a victim of anorexia as a teenager.

However, IMG Fashion Asia Pacific managing director Simon Lock was critical of the parade, saying the focus was on the models, not the clothes, adding that the models’ lack of experience.

The Sydney-based designer said she struggled with eating disorders until she was 17.

Claire Vickery, CEO of eating disorder support group the Butterfly Foundation, praised the attempt of the designer.

Hence proved, you don’t have to be sickly thin to be beautiful.
