Amidst glaring lights, applause, adulation and much fanfare, Miss Venezuela, Dayana Mendoza, was crowned as the Miss Universe 2008. She pretended not have hear it first but then it sank and a melange of shock, excitement and fear became evident in her expressions. Though her reaction was similar to previous winners, what is definitely different is her past experience of having been kidnapped. At 22, she knows how to stay calm and stable even in the most dreadful of situations. Mendoza is quoted as saying in the official website,
“I was once kidnapped in what in my country is known as an express kidnapping. It was a very hard experience. I learned to remain calm in a very stressful situation and to try to reach to the human part of our abductors.”
Well, a gamut of expressions that she managed to show in barely 5 seconds onstage would have you believe otherwise, but hey! She’s the Miss Universe now, so if you say so!
