Recycled design: Jailhouse chic!
Nishtha | Feb 3 2009

Even if it sounds absurd, this one will come as exciting news to vintage clothing fans. LA-based fashion designer Raquel Allegra recycles old jail shirts into fashionable, one-off designs. The designer marches down to L.A. county jail and herself digs worn out clothes and makes tunics, dresses and tanks out of them.

The finished items speak volumes about the workmanship that go into these clothes. Patrons of eco-friendly clothing also appreciate the edgy designs, which are a superhit with celebs like Nicole Richie, Penelope Cruz, Jessica Biel and many more. The asymmetrical hemlines and flowing sleeves add to the charm of these clothes, each of which have a strong, interesting history. The prices range from $200 to nearly $1,400.

Most of us would never want go to jail, but the designer, I am sure looks forward to a visit every time.
