Central Saint Martins Product Design Degree Show 2008 - Quirky and fun!

There is something adorable about quirky designs, like these for instance! At Central Saint Martins Product Design Degree Show 2008, you have a phone, which is more like a bracelet; chairs which look like the house has been ransacked and another chair which sit wearing a suit, more handsome than you.

The ‘Vertu Twilight’ designed by Lisa Fong is the ultimate in quirky designs. It coils around the wrist like a time piece and has the ear phone at the tip of your finger. When the phone rings, simply place your finger at your ear and speak your heart out. The form of ‘Vertu Twilight’ was based on the common female gesture of sweeping hair behind the ear and uses subtle gestures for interface. The design is eye-catching and easy on space; you don’t need to carry a bag on your evening parties with this one and still be connected to your looked ones. Oh, did I mention, look awesome as well. ‘Vertu Twilight’ is just as much a mobile phone as it is a piece of exquisite jewellery.

‘Siamese’ design by Pearl Chung is an attempt to breakthrough the convention of a chair. It uses chairs in various positions to form what we can make out as includes a book rack, a reading chair, a side table and a coat rack. The craftsmanship, which is an important factor of Liberty’s furniture, is shown in ‘Siamese’ as there are no joints between the chairs. All the joining pieces are actually from the same raw piece of wood. The chairs are definitely quirky and a bold statement for any household or office.

‘Dressed up’ dining chairs for Liberty by Nada Al Mousawi are, just as the name suggests, dressed up to add to the style and élan of a classy dinner. At the same time, it’s mysterious and plays tricks with people that were not aware that the coat was actually stitched into the upholstery. The back of the chair has been made to the same measurements as an average male so you feel like you are dining with other people whilst you eat. So, even if you do not have male company for dinner, this chair won’t let you feel the pinch. Fun and good looks at the same time!
